It is the sulfur in garlic that gives this vegetable its famed status as a powerful immunity protector. The sulfur stimulates the immune system to produce more cells that protect against viruses and infections. Garlic also enhances the activity of macrophages, immune cells that engulf and destroy invading organisms. Garlic has proven anti-fungal and antibacterial properties - it is thought of almost as a natural antibiotic.
