Here is a list of five ways to stay on your insulin schedule:
Speak up
. If you know you don't take your insulin every time you should, don't hide it. Ask your healthcare team for ideas that can help you.
Keep a log
. Each time you take your insulin, write it down in a journal. It will help remind you when to take your next dose.
Recruit family and friends
. Ask them to help keep you on track without acting like the diabetes police. A polite question -
not nagging
- from them can help.
Seek options
. Maybe an insulin pump or a pre-filled pen-type device is the way to go. Ask your healthcare team about the benefits of each.
Set an alarm
. Many digital watches and cell phones and glucose meters come with alarms. Set yours for when you should take your insulin.
